Respiratory viruses have many families of viruses. One of these families is Coronavirus. The virus affects both animals and humans. The virus is spreadable between humans and animals. The virus keeps on changing its shape, therefore it is hard to counter. The virus is spread in the same way as various other viruses such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
The first reported case of Corona Virus was reported before December 2019. After December 2019, it was declared as Global Pandemic. First, it was thought that the virus was pneumonia. But later on, it was called CoronaVirus. Its origin is confirmed in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. As its symptoms are similar to Syndrome and Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), this virus is known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It is also known as COVID-19. As SARS-CoV-2 originated from animals, Covid is also suspected to have originated from animals, especially bats. What’s the Risk?
Covid is a global pandemic as it is spread when a person comes in contact with an infected person. Especially when a person comes in contact with the infected person’s droplets. These droplets are expelled out when an infected person exhales, coughs, or sneezes. These droplets may land on objects, surfaces, or another person or are inhaled by mouth or nose and go directly into the lungs. Its symptoms may or may not be shown in a person if he/she is affected. Therefore, it is recommended to stay at least 6 feet away from another person. When a person touches on objects or surfaces having infected droplets, they transfer on to his/her hands. And when that person touches his/her nose, eyes, mouth, or eats without washing hands, the person will get infected.
There is clear evidence that COVID-19 infected people can transmit the coronavirus to other people before symptoms develop. Such a person is known as asymptomatic, and the disease transmitted by this person is called pre-symptomatic transmission. It is also possible for people with mild symptoms or no signs of disease to transmit the COVID. Mild symptoms include mild cough, fever, and no other signs of illness.
What is a COVID 19 PCR test?
The COVID 19 PCR test is a test used to diagnosis people who are currently infected with SARS-CoV-2, which is the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The PCR test is the “gold standard” test for diagnosing COVID-19 because it’s the most accurate and reliable test.
Symptoms of COVID-19
Covid symptoms normally appear within 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. The most commonly observed symptoms of COVID-19 include dry cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath. There are also various symptoms of corona including loss of sense of smell or taste or both, chills, muscle pain, body pain, sore throat, repeated shaking, headache, diarrhea, laziness, and tiredness.
People whose immune system is weakened, especially the elderly and people who are already on medication ( people suffering from cancer, lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease) are more prone to extreme illness. If you experience persistent chest pain or pressure, trouble breathing, confusion, or blue lips or face, seek medical attention immediately.
