1 Ton vs 1.5 Ton AC Electricity Consumption

By the general rule of thumb, 1 ton AC consumes less electricity than 1.5 ton AC. However, a lot depends on the inverter or non-inverter technology and also on the star value of the Air conditioner. Non-inverter air conditioners consume more electricity than the inverter air conditioner. And, the higher the star value the less electricity it will consume. Though it may be tempting to go for 1 ton AC, they are not the best choice for everyone’s need. The tonnage of the air conditioner represents the cooling effect it gives.

An air conditioner gives cooling with the re-circulation of warm air into the cold air. A 1 ton air conditioner takes about 240 KJ of energy when it converts the warm air and throws cold air in the room. With this, it spreads a cooling in the entire room.

1 Ton vs 1.5 Ton AC Budget and Capacity

If a 1 ton air conditioner will take about an hour to cool a 140 sq. ft. room. a 1.5 ton AC will cool down the same room in 30 minutes. Therefore, you select the tonnage of AC on the basis of the area you want it for.

If the area which you want to be cooled is high, you should go with the 1.5 ton AC for better refrigeration effect. With higher tonnage, your room will be cooled better, faster and with lower energy consumption. A 1.5 ton AC has a more efficient air cooling system with its larger coolant area.

Well, you do have to spend a little extra for more comfort.

A 1 ton air conditioner has the advantage of light weight and less electricity consumption. On the other, the 1.5 ton air conditioner is more efficient. The servicing cost gets somewhat equal as, though 1 ton AC consumes less power than the 1.5 ton air conditioner, you will have to run for a longer time to cool the room. But still, a 1.5 ton air conditioner is heavier on the pocket as you will have to pay more bills.

In Pakistan, where the climate gets hot and humid in the summer, you need an air conditioner that works best for dehumidifying the air. In these conditions, 1.5 ton AC offers excellent cooling.
